18th century painting – St Pierre St Gervais and St Protais, Curçay-sur-Dive-86
The listed painting in the church of St-Gervais-St-Protais in Curçay-sur-Dive, in the Vienne department, is to be entered in a national competition to help restore religious works of art, run by the “Sauvegarde de l’Art Français” foundation.
Proposed by Thierry Allard, Conservateur des Antiquités et Objets d’Art de la Vienne, this beautifully crafted oil painting on canvas probably dates from the early 18th century and depicts the three titular saints of the parish: Saint Peter, Saint Gervais and Saint Protais. They are the patron saints of the former church of St Gervais and St Protais and of the new one, as well as of the church of St Peter, now in ruins.
