PL’Secrets :La Grande Jaille: the history of a château in Loudun
SAMMARCOLLES On the Sunday 31 May 2026 14:00–17:00Located in Sammarçolles, Château de La Grande Jaille traces its origins back to the XIIIᵉ century, when it was founded by the de La Jaille family. Remodelled over the centuries, it lived through the Hundred Years’ War and the Renaissance, before acquiring its definitive exterior appearance in the XVIIᵉ century.
Home to influential families linked to the royal administration, the army and the court, the château fell into decline in the XIXᵉ century. Classified as a Historic Monument in 1928, it was reborn at the end of the 20th century thanks to a major restoration campaign carried out under the aegis of the Monuments Historiques.
The tour will be guided by the owner, Mr Chanetz, who will share the history of the building, its architecture and the major stages in its restoration.
