A city centre shaped by centuries
To cross the Vienne, you take the Pont Henri IV, one of the city’s emblems. Built in the XVIIᵉ century, it links the two banks with eye-catching elegance. From the deck, the view of the tufa-tiled facades and the quays offers a calm, almost suspended setting, where the historic structure of Châtellerault is clearly visible.
In the same area of the town centre, a more unexpected know-how has managed to survive: the umbrella factory. This discreet place perpetuates a local craft tradition that is still very much alive. Here you can discover the different stages in the entirely manual production process, with each umbrella leaving the workshop as a unique, solid and timeless piece.
Just a few steps away, the Aigle shop recalls another part of the area’s economic heritage, with a boutique-installation linked to the brand’s textile and manufacturing history. It’s an address that combines French heritage with contemporary sobriety.
