A romantic getaway in the Loudunais region!
Whenever Micha and I want to get together or I want to surprise him, I know just where to take him: we’re off on a romantic getaway to the Pays Loudunais! It’s become our secret hideaway. We unplug our phones and forget about the stress. We’re together and living in the moment. What’s more, this area is disarmingly simple, far from the beaten track and crowded tourist resorts.
For our latest romantic getaway in the Pays Loudunais, I’ve put together a programme that combines wild history, absolute relaxation and unusual nights. That’s the spirit of ‘si bien en PL’S’: savour every second at your own pace.
The romantic ruins of Château de la Mothe Chandeniers
Right from the start of my trip, I wanted to make a splash with the Château de la Mothe Chandeniers. Forget what you know about classic châteaux. This place is unique! It’s a majestic stone structure that seems to float on water, completely overgrown with vegetation. Micha and I strolled through the grounds, almost mesmerised by the trees growing inside the old reception rooms. It’s a strange and magnificent sight. You can feel the energy of this monument saved by thousands of enthusiasts around the world.
It’s the perfect place for two, away from the noise. We walked hand in hand, listening to the lapping of the water and the wind in the leaves. This château embodies a kind of renaissance that really touched us. It’s a must-see on a romantic trip to Vienna if you’re looking for something unusual and authentic. We spent a long time observing the details of the architecture, nibbled away by nature. It’s beautiful, it’s raw, and it puts your mind right.
Bubble at the Ô Claire Spa and swing at the Domaine de Roiffé
After this historical immersion, I took Micha to the Domaine de Roiffé. It’s sort of our headquarters in the area. We went straight to the Ô’clair Spa. Micha isn’t always into massages, but I saw him give in to the jacuzzi. We spent the afternoon in the hammam and sauna , letting our worries melt away. That’s the serene thing about Loudunais : you allow yourself to do nothing.
Once we’d really relaxed, we wanted to get moving. The estate has an 18-hole golf course. I can tell you that we had a lot of fun trying to aim just right. We’re not pros, but the atmosphere is so relaxed that we really got into it. The estate also offers horse riding.Which adds an extra touch of charm. In the evening, we settled down for a tête-à-tête dinner atthe Alcôve restaurant. The delicious food featured local produce and was accompanied by a glass of local wine. It was exquisite in its simplicity and taste.
A night under the stars at Cocoon Love in Arçay
The real surprise of the weekend was the night at Cocoon Love in Arçay. I’d booked this transparent bubble in the middle of nature. When we walked in, the effect was amazing. You’re protected, with all the comforts of a nice cosy bed, but you feel like you’re sleeping outside. Once night fell, we stretched out to watch the stars. No light pollution, just the immense sky above us. We spent hours talking and dreaming as we gazed up at the Milky Way.
It’s a magical experience that creates a very strong bond. You feel alone in the world, privileged. Waking up to daylight and birdsong is a luxury we don’t afford ourselves often enough. For a romantic getaway in the Pays Loudunais, this really is the height of the unusual. You’ll leave feeling incredibly light, as if you’d travelled much further than you expected.
Back to basics at You & Me Glamping
To finish on a sweet note, we tested the . It’s in the spirit of getting back to basics, but with a very cosy feel. We loved our little tent. No stress, just us and the surrounding nature. In the evening, we gathered round a campfire and roasted marshmallows. It’s a silly thing to do, but it brought back memories of our childhood and did us a world of good.
We took the time to chat under the trees, without any distractions. This land has the power to reconnect you to what really matters. On each of our romantic breaks in the Pays Loudunais, weappreciate these little moments of raw happiness. We return home with full batteries and a light heart.
