Adventure (also) on foot in the Pays Loudunais

If you’re looking to get away from it all on foot in the Pays Loudunais… well, this is the place! Take a deep breath and enjoy the fresh air of our beautiful region. For walking, of course, there’s hiking , but if, like us, you like to get moving in a different way, we’ve got two great suggestions for you: Nordic walking, which is more active, and cani-rando, a fun way to spend time with your pooch or a husky (or almost).

The setting? Gentle countryside, a discreet (we don’t shout it from the rooftops) and authentic territory, simple and perfect for a getaway with your loved ones.

As simple as Nordic walking

Two poles, nature and a good pace. These are the main ingredients of Nordic walking. Then there’s the way you move (it changes everything!). You use the poles, engage your arms and adopt a slightly more sustained rhythm than a traditional walk. The movement is more fluid, and the body is put to greater use: legs, arms and back work together. In the Pays Loudunais region, this walking activity is part of a slow-tourism approach: take your time, look around and smile. With poles in hand, you can take it easy.

Where can you go Nordic walking in the Pays Loudunais?

Although the information sheets are often designed for hikers, you should be aware that some routes are compatible with hiking. For example, we recommend the Sentier de Bellevues from Loudun, a 19km walk of around 4? hours through a limestone landscape (you can, of course, adapt it to your level). You can also take a break in the Scévolles forest (in the commune of Guesnes) on specially adapted loops:

With the youngest or beginners, opt for a leisurely pace, take breaks, look at nature and have a laugh. That’s what Nordic walking’s all about, in the ” Si bien en PL’S ” version: no pressure, just fun.

The fabulous cani-rando experience

A cani-rando is you + a dog (or a pack of dogs!). You set off on foot, but with four-legged company. Here, it’s not just a case of “walking with your dog”, it’s a real nature outing where the animal pulls a little, guides you, gives you a boost and makes you smile. In the Pays Loudunais, the activity is accessible and original.

If you’re not sure what to do, there are operators like Latitude Nordique in Guesnes who offer cani-rando (and cani-kart) packages. During these walks in the great outdoors, you immerse yourself in the company of Siberian huskies, all the while respecting the animal and enjoying a cool, natural atmosphere. For those of you who are ready to try this adventure with your own dog, you can set off from Guesnes and walk along the Scévolles forest, past ponds and undergrowth… in short, enjoy a setting that says “nature”, “breathing” and “letting go”. You don’t have to invent a route: it’s all ready-made.

Who can go on a cani-rando?

Anyone you like! If you hire an operator, it’s perfect for families: you (or the children) are guided and everything is organised. And it’s a great way to bond. In autonomous mode, we just advise you to make sure that the dog has the right temperament and physical condition. For children, for example, it’s best to choose a calm dog. And, above all, give yourself plenty of time.

Our practical advice

You can canoe-rando all year round. When booking, remember to check the minimum age, size and character of the dog (or pack). And above all: the right clothes, the right shoes and a “take your time” attitude!

Nordic walking or cani-rando?

Are you hesitating? Do you want to get moving, tone up or simply try something new? Then Nordic walking is for you. If you’d rather surprise the kids, create an unusual moment or share the experience with your four-legged friend (or a supervised dog), then cani-rando is for you. That’s what cani-rando is for, and in the end, you can do both! Why not try it? Nordic walking in the morning, cani rando in the afternoon… yes, it’s possible (and we recommend it, especially if you’ve still got some energy left!).

Whatever you choose, remember to warm up, even briefly. A little gentle walking, a few simple stretches. Another essential step is to stay hydrated (nature doesn’t always have fountains). Finally, respect the animal and, as a family, adjust your pace. Take breaks, opt for shorter routes if the children are small and… put your phone away for a while. Take a breath. Look around. Laugh.
