A waltz of tastings in the Pays Loudunais

If you’re a gourmet, you’re sure to enjoy tasting in the Pays Loudunais. Where I come from, curiosity about food is very highly regarded. We take the time to taste, discuss and smell. You’ll meet men and women who work the land, keep bees, press fruit, roast grains and make wines that tell their own stories, all in a discreet, simple and genuine setting, where conviviality is favoured over folklore and bling.

Tastings in the Pays Loudunais begin with Saumurois wines

When it comes to planning wine tastings in the Pays Loudunais, the Saumur region is never far away. And neither are its vineyards! On the hillsides of the Pays Loudunais, you’ll find everything that makes up the charm of theSaumur PDO: Chenin, Cabernet and Chardonnay, carefully cultivated by committed winegrowers. In these vineyard landscapes, the journey begins with the eyes. Letting your gaze wander is a gentle, almost meditative experience. Then, between troglodytic cellars and family estates, you discover a palette of flavours ranging from bright white to silky red, with discreetly elegant fine bubbles.

With a glass in your hand and a smile on your face, each visit offers you not one but at least two encounters. With the land, where the stories of the plots help you discover the specific local characteristics. With the winegrowers and winemakers , who will treat you to a memorable harvest and share with you the skills passed down from generation to generation.

You’ll often leave with a bottle, sometimes with an anecdote, but always with a smile.

Make the region sparkle

After your experience in the vineyards of Saumur, the Pays Loudunais continues to sparkle on your palate with other local beverages that are well worth a stop. In Saint-Léger-de-Montbrillais, Les Bières Pierre brew local beers with a strong character, born of patient work and a real sense of taste. In Loudun, Cafés de Théophraste roast their beans on site, offering a palette of aromas that unfolds cup after cup. Finally, at Domaine de Roiffé, Distillerie Wezeen adds a daring touch with its finely-crafted artisanal spirits .

Three different worlds, but the same common thread: the pleasure of transforming a raw product into a drink that tells the story of the region.

A tasty mosaic of expertise

In the Pays Loudunais region, taste often comes from discreet gestures, sometimes hidden underground. This is the case at the Champignonnière de Bernazay, where the cool galleries allow the mushrooms to grow slowly, in a unique atmosphere. Further afield, the land expresses itself in other ways: in Loudun, La Noisette de l’Ouest makes sweet treats from its fruit, while in Insay,Huilerie des Roches presses a warmly scented walnut oil. And then there are the farms that are returning to a respectful, patient approach, such as in Bournand, where Ferme Shanti grows vegetables and aromatic herbs according to the rhythm of the seasons.

Other ways of creating taste

The region also has some lovely surprises in store, with places that are passionate about cooking with living things. In Dercé, theHapozème workshopexplores the artisanal transformation of plants with conviction. A little further afield, in Saint-Jean-de-Sauves, the Ferme du Miel offers a gentle interlude around bees and the patient work of the beekeeper. Continue on to Monts-sur-Guesnes, where the Rucher école (apiary school) extends the experience by revealing the behind-the-scenes workings of pollination and the essential role played by insects in balancing the landscape. Here, gourmet delights mingle with education and attention to the living world: another face of the Pays Loudunais, just as tasty.

Conviviality and short circuits on the menu for the Pays Loudunais tastings

In the Pays Loudunais, tastings often open doors to new encounters. These exchanges are as much part of the pleasure as the products themselves.

The same spirit can be found at our markets, where freshly-picked vegetables and fragrant cheeses can be found… It’s the perfect place to fill a basket before improvising a picnic in the vineyards or under the trees. The conviviality continues in the gourmet get-togethers that punctuate the year: evenings of tasting and music, summer markets at dusk, meetings to talk about cooking, harvests or wine, simply over a glass.

When you come and visit us, you’re encouraging short circuits and practices that respect the land. This is also what the Loudunais is all about: a discreet region where you take the time to savour as much as to visit, to discuss as much as to taste. And where it’s not unusual to succumb to the PL’Savoureux we love so much.
